Part of the problem is that because so few journalists are willing to be confrontational in interviews, those that are just stop getting interviews/get ostracized because there's enough people willing to just accept word vomit.

Even if they had the resources, they sadly just wouldn't get work.

According to Google's help pages, hype is just a number calculated off of how many subscribers you have, with lower subs = more hype.

They also say it gives an algorithm boost but that's obviously impossible to measure because it's a black box.

In this case, assuming fixed subs it's ~1290 per hype

I remember getting one of those as a reward from my parents for not getting upset as a kid when I got my vax shots.

I played that thing until something insids it broke.

Tetris is such an awesome game.

In the US, I expect it to become default policy to determine whether or not someone's insurance premiums should get raised for daring to want to stay alive within a few years.

Any attempts to stop it will be met by telling them that they can't outlaw the orphan crushing machine, so why bother.
October 20, 2025 at 8:17 PM
This sounds so unethical that it genuinely makes me wonder if someone could try it in any country *other* than the US and not immediately get hit with the mother of all ethical committees blackballing their ass.

Like this is so cartoonishly evil to the point you'd call it unrealistic in a cartoon.

I wasn't sure at first about the format, but then they started the second audio plate and it instantly clicked.

Absolutely incredible.

(The content warning field on Mastodon is just the subject line of the status, it's not meant to be a content warning. Mastodons devs didn't want to standardize a "proper" version because the lead dev wanted to hide Attack on Titan spoilers ASAP, so they overloaded the field.)
October 11, 2025 at 6:47 PM
The reason they never did that mostly comes from the fact that Mastodon isn't so much an AP server as it is a social media server that happens to support AP.

Mastodon already is notorious for overloading things in AP that have different semantic meanings so they don't have to extend it.
October 11, 2025 at 6:47 PM
No, the horrible state of Mastodon DMs comes from Mastodon DMs just being the regular ActivityPub statuses and some funky interactions with how those regular statuses are meant to be handled in AP.

Making DMs their own status subtype would've avoided a ton of the more obvious footguns.

Java is a language that's amazing for learning the fundamentals of how to program.

Glad to see it's finally also changing into a language people will want to keep using after that.

Oo new person to follow. I always love discovering people that still write real blogs.

It's an interesting system, that's for sure. It reminds me a lot of Specter Knight for some reason, a character with also more weight and profile than Shovel Knight, but once you master him, he feels so much better to use than Shovel Knight felt to use.

Instead of pointlessly dodging/jumping, just stand still and try to avoid the boss attacks as they come; you'll learn the patterns in no time, even with the double masks. The fast/weaving approach is cool, but it requires knowing the patterns.

It's interesting given how spells in HK were basically optional, but here it does feel like you need to use them constantly.

One thing that worked well in HK still works well in Silksong though; it's far easier to learn bosses if you are playing purely reactive to them.

The result is a combat system that is more generous in heals (HK heals are overly committal, Hornet has very freeform healing), but is a lot more punishing for screwing up movement.

There's also a bigger focus on her "spells"; they can really speed up fights.
