Lifelong learner, I want to know all the things! Science enthusiast, anything space... evolution... physics... I love it all.

Recent amateur astronomer and it is my new favorite thing!
"....it isn't because I've suddenly developed the skill of brevity..." may possibly be my favorite GG line ever.

Obviously, given your line of work, you probably don't hear this too often, but that is genius!

It was directly in the middle of the trail, and when I realized what it was, I gave it a wide berth. I took the photo as I walked off the path behind it and zoomed in as I came back on the trail and tried to take a wide photo of it, it started rattling its tail and hissed at me.

Then this was me.

The wife recommended the Cliffs of Moher preferably when it's not foggy. Those are the Cliffs of Insanity from The Princess Bride.

Here is a graph from this paper (arxiv.org/html/2404.06...) that shows spectra taken from galaxies imaged by the JWST stacked by distance from us. You can see wavelengths of the spectra grow larger the further away the galaxy showing a direct example of red-shift and the expansion of spacetime.

What are the main H spectra besides the Lyman Alpha and Balmer Series and how they are typically labeled?

I bought my first telescope (8" dobs) earlier this year and my sister has been wanting to drive up to check it out (2 hours away) and we decided that Jupiter at opposition tonight would be ideal... Overcast and raining it is for the next 24 hours... sigh.
