A community group of musicians from the New Orleans, Louisiana area bound by a love of music. Free concerts all over the metro NOLA area.
It’s an okay tune, nothing special, but it’s drenched in LMEA and NOCB history. Looking forward to playing it Sunday at 1pm at the Recital Hall of UNO’s Performing Arts Center. Free admission, please bring a canned food donation for local food banks.

Mr. Denena, Jr. writes this tune, Major Van Orden March. One of our members stumbled across it and brought it out for us to play. We’re guessing it’s related to Major (and future Brig General) George Van Orden, came to fame at Guadalcanal and Guam. Also developed modern Marine sniper training

It’s written by Leonard Denena, Jr. Who’s he? Well, that’s why we’re playing it. 😉

The Louisiana Music Educators Association is a statewide group of band directors, celebrating their 90th anniversary in 2026. NOCB has been involved in annual concerts of theirs for a number of years.

It’s got diabolical time signatures, beautiful hymns, and features pretty much everybody in the band, including a five piece quintet. A concert band standard.

Anderson took eight different Christmas carols and jammed Jingle Bells into the mix. 😉

The song was too long for the 78rpm records of the day, so Anderson has a brief pause so you can flip the record over in time. 🤪

Louis Moreau Gottschalk was a world famous pianist and composer in the 1800’s, born right here in New Orleans. We’re playing a new arrangement of Souveniers de Puerto Rico, which he wrote after a trip to the island.
