In addition to the horrible physical and emotional toll this will inflict on individuals, families, and the entire Charlotte community, this is a profoundly stupid move politically. These raids are galvanizing trad Rs against Trump. This makes flipping Tillis’ seat so much easier.

The sweet irony is that if she does pull her vote, it sinks her SC guv chances, which were not great to start with. MAGA won’t forgive her.

I figured one of the Rs would back off, likely Mace. She’s desperate after she went Karen on the airport cops. Petitioners can likely get the vote back after the TX-18 runoff.

So, let me get this straight:
1) Randomly increase tariffs on goods.
2) Watch prices predictably increase on said goods.
3) Use tariff revenue to send a one-off $2K check to help buy said higher-priced goods.
I think there was an easier way to do this.

I tend to agree. I am furious over this and feel like it’s end of the world, but rationally I know that this does not help Rs in the long run. The problem for me is the timing. Just 5 days after a major election victory. Seems completely tone deaf.

Long time until November 2026, but it will hurt for a while. If Jeffries can hold the House Dems together to oppose this, it might mitigate the damage to the party. Limit the betrayal to the Shameful 8.

This. If people think the same Dems who caved tonight will support major SCOTUS reform when they’re in the majority, think again. They are the spoilers. They’re using the Manchin playbook.
