confine myself to a car because I'm afraid of the harm that cars can cause. Just like the parent who doesn't let their child walk to school because of traffic and so becomes part of that traffic, nothing changes if we aren't willing to make the change. So I'm going to keep on riding.

I'm physically okay, but really shaken up. Since then, biking has been a very stressful part of my day instead of the emotional outlet it usually is. I've had many close calls before, but never impact. I'm not sure how long this trauma is going to viscerally affect me, but I know that I can't...

🚲🏙️ April Transportation tracking update🧵: Trips in a car made up only 25% of the miles I traveled! Mostly because I drove less, but also because I traveled 70 miles further by other modes. In other news, a driver failed to yield while pulling out of a driveway and I went over their hood on 4/27...

Almost forgot YTD raw data:

Lastly, here's the rest of the YTD charts

I expect to drive less to mountains and bike more in the city. Looking at the accumulation charts and observing the shift in mode share from last month, I believe that the Car-Multimodal gap will close in the next two months. Won't be upset if it doesn't pan out, but that's how I see the data moving

I am immensely proud of this feat! I traveled to the mountains three times this month, commuted by car once🤢, and got two Ubers on a night out. I completed every other trip by some other mode! YTD I am running a 60/40 (car/multimodal) split, but as the ski season slows and the weather gets warmer...

🚲🏙️ March Transportation Tracking Update🧵: I biked 7 miles further than I drove this month! I realized how close I was 3 days ago and rode 48 miles recreationally in addition to 40 miles commuting and for social events to achieve this goal. Even though it didn't happen completely organically...

Found a #carinthecreek on my ride home at 8th and Speer. #denver happens a couple times every year, but this is the second time in 24 hours. www.reddit.com/r/Denver/s/j...

Austerity politics will not succeed in addressing the unsustainable nature of our transportation system. Convenient and affordable alternatives to driving, both locally and regionally, are the only things that can do that. Thanks for listening end of rant. Here's the YTD raw data (forgot it earlier)

YTD accumulation. I'll be excluding plane miles until the accumulation of other transportation modes catches up.

February graphs and data (I updated colors). Of note, I record legs of car trips if picking up or dropping off someone (the drive to pick someone up on the way to ski counts as a social trip, then the drive to the mountains counts as a recreation trip)

Transportation Tracking Update🧵: First up is YTD graphs. I said recently that I have a pretty #carfree lifestyle "in Denver". And that's key to understanding my transportation habits. I'd say that ~98% of my trips that start and end within the city are done without a car. But like many Coloradans...

I have a pretty car free lifestyle in Denver and I cannot explain the joy of biking with unwieldy cargo. The next time someone says they have to drive because of bags or equipment, show them this photo. Remember folks, any bike is a cargo bike.

don't *think enough people understand how much richer a city becomes when you walk, bike, and take transit most places. I'll run into a friend at the park on my ride home from school or stop in a shop on my walk to the train. I'll meet the cutest dog while waiting for coffee on my morning commute3/4

I'm still gathering data to establish patterns but while recording miles for each of my trips, I've noticed that I'm much more likely to engage in multiple activities when walking or biking. I think most folks intuitively recognize that cars are terrible for exploring cities, but I don't enough 2/3?

January has come to a close and I am so excited by my transportation tracking spreadsheet. It has 15 separate sheets (one for each month and three for analytics). I made one big change while making graphs this week and created a tally for miles excluding plane travel cuz they wreck the scale 1/3?
