whereas i think far too many contemporary feminists are desperate not to see how awful and how pervasive patriarchy genuinely is--because it's fucking SCARY. if THIS is what we're up against--how can we possibly win?

there are answers. but you need to start with courage, not denial.

You and me are in the same boat. Something that looked like this was the inevitable endgame. However, *this* endgame was a tactical and strategic disaster. I would be willing to take more pain if the Dems actually had a plan, but since they didn‘t, there was no victory to be had in that pain.

So your theory is “make SNAP recipients suffer *and* force almost all federal employees to quit because they don’t get paid for at least 14 months,“ which still cannot make the Republicans do anything. Bad poll numbers are not actual power. Sorry, I don’t see how it would extend the ACA subsidies.

Totally on board with this (I also support the shutdown/need to pay my mortgage).
Unfortunately, this was one of the stupider ways to end the shutdown. They also didn’t have a ToV about how to do that, which had made this a public relations disaster.

No, but I’m also not demanding people suffer just to make a political point, with no plan or power to change things.

If “get rid of the filibuster“ was the secret goal, everyone needed to be on board for it at the start, and the public messaging needed to be calibrated for that. Failure to do that is a different leadership/caucus failure, which also requires replacing these people.

If “get rid of the filibuster“ was the double secret probation goal, then everyone needed to be on-side for that, and the messaging needed to reflect it. So, no matter what this was a leadership and D caucus failure, so throw them out.

"oh gee why can't you all just get along, stop being divisive"

I'm sorry are you Jon Stewart on Crossfire twenty years ago? Or do you want to come back to this planet in the year 2025? The overwhelming gripe is people think you're spineless, not that your DW-NOMINATE score isn't bipartisan enough

I’m in favor of the shutdown, and I need to get paid. AND the minority party can’t force the majority to do anything. “Hold out” is an underpants gnomes theory of victory.

Who’s going to pay everyone’s rent/mortgages until November 2026 (but really really January 2027 when Congress actually starts)? You?

i am also previsaging in my brain palace that several deeply unfortunate people will win essentially fetterman-style: people are sick of dem leadership janking them around, and so they'll vote for people who talk, rather than believe, right. i see it as if it were my own hand in front of me rn.

Or the mods needlessly walked the plank for the caucus. Either way, the aristocrats!

It’s been a problem since 2010. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Your lips to the electorate’s ears. Also, if Neguse wants to move up, he should primary Hick instead of angling for Bennett‘s seat.

We have to do better than reelecting him and having Bennett for gov
