about how to evaluate the drug’s effectiveness and where the research needs to go from here.

I spoke with leading experts in MS research and treatment, and they expressed strong reservations about giving patients the most powerful

“People are scared,” Birnbaum says. “I think it’s really important that our government recognizes the value of scientific work. So many dominoes are going to fall if we don’t continue funding diverse and inclusive scientific research.”

Birnbaum has spent the last several years working on a therapeutic that increases cells speed and capacity to heal wounds and regenerate damaged nerve endings. It would allow the body to heal wounds twice as fast. Without the two govt grants she was promised, this research will be put on hold.

After LeCun’s remarks, I found Victor Schuster, a Biomedical Researcher at Albert Einstein University who studies the overproduction of fat cells in humans, carrying a sign corroborating the above stat. Asking for his source, he smiled and said “NIH.gov”

A French national, LeCun adds he came to #USA “because of the vitality of the scientific climate here.” LeCun says that many people working in the sciences he knows came to the US for this same reason. “Without it, they’re out of here.” Since 2000, 40% of US Nobel Laureates have been immigrants.

LeCun, who’s gained social media fame responding to Elon Musk, seeming to acknowledge he works in a controversial role as head of AI at #Meta, adding “we need more #humanintelligence in government.”
