PhD student in Scandinavian Languages, researching how Old Swedish historiographical texts have been rewritten and revised over time.
Still looking for more information on this. Grateful for any help. #eScriptorium
Does anybody know if there's an escriptorium model that might work for 15th century Old Swedish (gothic cursiva)? And, how strict is the invitation system?
Thank you!

I saw someone responding to critique of generative AI with the image of monks resisting the printing press.

The Latin Church embraced printing technology early on. The first printed book in Scandinavia was the Odense breviary of 1482.

People grasp for historical precedence when there is none.
At risk of repeating myself: The Luddites weren’t against technology. They were against getting put out of work by a technology that did a version of their job faster but worse, in the service of increasing profits for their bosses.

Choose 20 books that have stayed with you or influenced you. One book per day for 20 days, in no particular order. No explanations, no reviews, just covers.

Sometimes working with manuscripts gets us really, really close to the people from the past allowing us to hear their voices. This is a story of a letter from a schoolgirl to her teacher, written probably sometime at the end of the 9th or the beginning of the 10th century. A thread 🧵 #medievalsky /1

Word of warning to all: this post, all OP's other posts, and the website link, is utter garbage. Every single claim made by OP is grossly incorrect.

A selection from Schering Rosenhane's (1609—1663) book collection: Olof Rudbeck's Atlantica, Snorri's Heimskringla, and what surely must be Þormóður Torfason's Historia rerum Norvegicarum (?)

Recently I was able to talk a little about one of my favorite items in our special collections - the Stockholm Bloodbath Engraving. Originally commissioned by Gustav Vasa in 1524, it's a remarkable depiction of Stockholm and also an excellent example of early modern propaganda:
