“Palestine from Above” traces the layered history of the aerial gaze, from 19th c. colonial photography and cartography to the algorithmic visions of today. Through the interweaving of archival evidence and artworks, it reveals how vision has been used as a weapon to map, monitor, and dominate.

Once a site of divine vision, it is now surveilled by satellites and drones, instruments not of prophecy but of prediction, not of revelation but of regulation. The aerial gaze over Palestine has not only shaped how it is viewed but how it is lived.

Palestine from Above juxtaposes photographs, books, letters, films, and artworks, fostering a dialogue among these diverse sources to interrogate the past and the present.

Non-linear narrative of the exhibition reveals the reliance of different powers on aerial technologies to serve their respective ideological intentions on the Palestinian environment and the people, while highlighting Palestinian resistance, which subverts these technologies.

Palestine from Above casts a critical look at the historical and contemporary implications of aerial views of Palestine, during this period of intense devastation in the Middle East, reaching its peak in the massacre in Gaza.
