Last meal in Miami was at Cafe Bastille, and eggs Benedict variation and a crème brûlée croissant cube. The Benedict was good, wouldn’t repeat the croissant which was served warm when I’d have liked that pastry cream chilled. I won’t need food again for a while 🤣

Bowl at Naked Farmer: pecan kale salad, mac and cheese, roasted broccoli, steak, and a vinaigrette. Didn’t need the vinaigrette with the dressing on the kale salad, really. All well done, really good meal.

Breakfast at Crema, a block from the hotel. Open-faced breakfast sandwich

I traded an older Pikachu in a costume, shiny, to one of the Seattle group, for a shiny Mudbray. Food was very good, I had shrimp and pork dumplings and a mushroom-veggie ramen with a jammy egg. The place is Dumplings Mi Amor

Grackle would like to share my sandwich

Lat lunch is a Cubano at Sanguich in touristy Bayfront Marketplace. Loud bar behind me, multiple spots with young women in tight halter tops and cheerleader skirts carrying signs to attract you into their bar. Sign of the cruising demographic’s interests?

Afternoon still up Bayfront Park. Trilingual sign on the kid play structure is in English, Spanish, and Google Lens tells me, Haitian Creole.

Ah, Apple Maps informs me that this is probably the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line terminal and HQ at the Port of Miami

Pics from yesterday: hotel room view with window glare, riverwalk art. Is that a cruise ship terminal as well as shipping containers? The hotel does seem to have business from cruise ship folks

Crema Gourmet for late breakfast. Eggs and a pistachio croissant filled with a pistachio cream. I was expecting more in the line of a pistachio frangipane, but this worked. They could lose the bright green food coloring in the dough.

Walked back to the hotel thru the park, nice seasonal decor, lots of people walking dogs or jogging (but then it was only 6:30 or so). Miami lightpole decor features palm trees. Of course

Pollo y Jarras—went with the chicken plate with the chaufa criollazo (a fried rice) and fries, balked at the upchrhe to swap in a salad. Coconut flan for dessert. It was good but not great, chicken was not as moist as I’d hoped, flan texture was very firm—maybe a style difference.

Brings back memories of undergrad days, as Emory’s summer field camp was in the Valley and Ridge

Dreamland to Vulcan Park to see the Vulcan, which I recall reading about in some detail a long time ago. I have no idea what prompted that, it might even have been a digression to a geology class while an undergrad. Not a good sun angle for photos.

One brief stop at Buccees ( I really escaped with only using the restroom!!) then paused in Birmingham for a late lunch at Dreamland BBQ. Rib tip sandwich with fried okra on the side. Good flavor but oversauced 🥲

Another happening in Bryant Park today: big layout of chess boards, I think for the younger set. No idea if this is a regular Sunday thing or a special event. The Pokemon players just walked around.

Today was not an early start though last night’s pain meds and soaking the aching legs in a hot tub did wonders. Hit the Breads Bakery kiosk in Bryant for an iced latte, an egg salad sandwich on a sesame roll, and a slice of chocolate babka (because, Breads Bakery…)

Next stop, given where I was, was the Nintendo store, to get a special seedling for the *other* Niantic game I plan, Pikmin Bloom. I guess I should start calling these “Niantic/Scopely” or just Scopely since the games have been sold…

So, a 24-hour Apple Store. I’d say “only in NYC” but probably not. :) It worked just like other Apple Stores, just on a larger scale than the ones I’ve been using lately. Explained my problem, got shown to a seat for a “short 10-15 min wait” that was really 35 or so…but I was off my feet so OK.

Event pics, I will probably stop posting and taking pics when play starts at 9

Enjoyed my breakfast at a waterside bench, nice views of Manhattan, Ellis Island, and the Statue of Liberty. Sun is trying to come out but a few drops of rain have fallen too.
June 7, 2025 at 12:42 PM
I wandered all the way to the south end of the event space, seems more stretched out than last year. Tried the food trucks in search of coffee and breakfast-y food, several went set up yet and I didn’t spot any with coffee. So arancini and a Coke for a breakfast of champions!

I was in line at the preorder merchant tent around 7:20, they started handing stuff out at 7:30–it was 8 or later last year. T-shirt and pin, code card so your game avatar can have the shirt too, and an expedited entry card for the main merch tent if you want to spend event time shopping. :)

Started out of the park around 5:30, paused under a bridge when it rained a bit, then walked on to Urban Hawker for an early dinner of pork chop fried rice, medium spicy (which was plenty)

Lunch from another bakery across from the park
