“Man and His Pump” Watercolor, 32 x 40 1/2”. The subject is men’s power. Figures in the background are Roman, from Pompeii. Phallus=power symbol. The gas pump seems really appropriate for our fossil fuel industry as a symbol of dominance. B&W male, looking all dapper, showing off his bravado.

Is Bluesky really safe from the present government? 2 days ago, I felt fear and deleted all paintings that looked like I was critical of men and power. They come for the intellectuals and artists next. What am I to do, be honest or hide out? Are any other artists afraid of retribution?

I haven’t figured out the meaning behind this yet. She’s sleepwalking…is she going toward the light or the unknown? At the bottom is a dark pit. Did she come out of it or could she slip back in?

Haunted Joanna. Oil on canvas, 36 x 60”. I love her sidelong look, like she doesn’t trust or is uncomfortable. I painted the old house behind her because she loves haunted houses. Does that mean she’s haunted or afraid of being haunted? I don’t know. But, she intrigued me.

St. Lucy’s Eyes, oil on canvas, 36” x 48” My son, bottom right, just happened to have those barbecue tongs in his hands. That seemed to go with St. Lucy having her eyes plucked out (center). My daughter in law is holding a severed piranha head I saw in an Amazonian museum. It all went together.

Years ago, when my grandmother died, I took her photo albums home. It was hard for me to visualize my 97 year old grandmother and her sister as young women of style in the 20’s.

I didn’t know if I wanted to paint the stuffed bunny on the top of the couch or not. It was kind of odd, and first I thought “stupid”, but I’m glad I included it.

Two more sphere paintings that resulted from seeing a canon ball at the castle in Assisi, Italy.
48x60” and 48x72”, oil on canvas. One is with a tiny black (now turquoise) triangular rock about that I found in a rail yard. The second two spheres are in front of an arched courtyard I saw in Mexico.
