Today is the birthday of cartoonist Bud Sagendorf (March 22, 1915-Sept. 22, 1994). He started as an assistant to Popeye creator, E.C. Segar, before going on to spend several decades as the main writer & artist for the character in both the newspaper strip & comic books.

The other shows Popeye holding a small raft with Swee'Pea on it over his head while he fights off a shark in the water.
