WAYBOUND is the sci-fi anthology of the Third Cold War (2343-2523) and its cataclysmic end. It is a character-focused, world-driven short story collection that looks through the eyes of the people who were there to see the worlds catch fire. Lucky them.

WAYBOUND, as an anthology, is written out of chronological order and skips around a lot.

The Milsys Mark 368 EMPAC-"Mega Heavy" is capable of firing up to 2500mm rounds, but is frequently necked down to 1825mm in order to carry a larger combat load— still appreciably larger than most capital-grade spinal guns, and "a hell of a lot" faster.

Design studies had been floating around Hun Tian's Jiangnan Complex for some time about taking the existing LŌNGSHĒN-Class and retrofitting it with an "excessively large" main gun that could deliver accurate fire of large payloads at extreme speed. The result was the Big Stick.

This left the UNC with a single OLYMPUS hull and a glaring gap in the lineup. With the ban on dreadnought construction broken following the Landigal Protocols on Arms Reduction falling apart in the early 2500s, nothing stood in the way of the UN's gunnery advantage collapsing.

The FD2500 plan initially called for a production run of the long-dormant OLYMPUS-Class (DRN-277) dreadnought, the largest warship ever ordered, with a carrier of derived design. After pressure from critics, the dreadnought was canned in favor of the THARSIS-Class supercarrier.

The PUERTO RICO is a derivative of the LŌNGSHĒN-Class BBG, a battleship developed for the UN-UNC under the controversial Fleet Design 2500 plan. FD2500 had opposition from hawks and doves; many hawkish politicians questioned if the plan was suited to fight the Minervans at all.
