The Minervan Fleet Air Arm's No. 818 Naval Air Squadron "Flying Ripsaws" conduct a formation flight of newly received Kormoran Astronautics F23K 'Vaquero' interceptors, Minerva's first aerospace fighter, to kick off the 2522 Republics Air & Space Tattoo in Nouveau-Zahlé, Minerva.

The Milsys Mark 368 EMPAC-"Mega Heavy" is capable of firing up to 2500mm rounds, but is frequently necked down to 1825mm in order to carry a larger combat load— still appreciably larger than most capital-grade spinal guns, and "a hell of a lot" faster.

Design studies had been floating around Hun Tian's Jiangnan Complex for some time about taking the existing LŌNGSHĒN-Class and retrofitting it with an "excessively large" main gun that could deliver accurate fire of large payloads at extreme speed. The result was the Big Stick.

This left the UNC with a single OLYMPUS hull and a glaring gap in the lineup. With the ban on dreadnought construction broken following the Landigal Protocols on Arms Reduction falling apart in the early 2500s, nothing stood in the way of the UN's gunnery advantage collapsing.

The skirmish at Akrotiri threatened to escalate into an all-out war on the Frontier had cooler heads not prevailed and Admiral Ilyas al-Hajj, FMRN Eleventh Fleet CO, had not issued the standdown order after interpreting the situation had crossed President Baughan's red line. (9/)

Unfortunately, when the cargo hauler C/S Siren's Song, a hastily dispatched relief vessel out of Calvados, broke the blockade, she did so in pieces. It has not been definitively determined how she was destroyed, but a brawl between UN and Minervan vessels began anyways (8/)

She sought to strike a position that would prevent bloodshed while also showing that Minerva would not fold to hostage-taking. Rules of engagement were tight. They would wait them out-- unless a UN ship fired on a civilian vessel, on the colony, or on them. (7/)

Minerva sent SPACTGRU 57 in response, headed up by MEDINA RIDGE, to disrupt the blockade by intimidation, with permission to use force only if necessary. Minerva had not asked for Akrotiri-- but President Baughan decided that Minerva would protect Minervans. (6/)
