Booker: "We have a president who did nothing as people stormed our Capitol, & then when those people who viciously beat police & led to some of their deaths - therefore cop killers - were convicted, he pardoned them. So for him to be talking about responsive law enforcement is hypocritical at best"

Friends — help me settle a debate! Is the expression “hamming it up” too old-fashioned for promoting a kids’ summer musical theatre camp?

Friday Curmudgeon Corner: I commute a lot to work and listen to talk radio, mostly CBC which features a lot of interviews. When people are asked a question, they reply with “Yeah, so…” or “Sure…” before answering the question. Why?? These are not “yes or no” questions, why the “yeah”? 🤔

…and losing it a week later 🙄

Casar: You can quickly explain Doge with just two numbers.

First: $8 million a day. That’s how much Elon Musk collects in federal government contracts.

Second: $65 a day. That’s how much the average senior—someone who has worked their entire life—gets from Social Security.…

Trudeau: "I want to speak first directly to the American people. We don't want this. We want to work with you as a friend and ally. We don't want to see you hurt either. But your government has chosen to do this to you. As of this morning, markets are down and inflation is set to rise dramatically."

so special ed programs are getting gutted because their internal documentation used the term "transition" when talking about helping disabled kids enter the working world. they're literally striking at that word wherever they see it.
the richest man in the world has decided that your kids don't deserve special education programs

Incompetence in Washington puts every American at risk, no matter how you voted. No one should be happy that the DOGE team - the same folks who randomly published classified U.S. security information online today - wants access to your bank account & Social Security numbers.

Is anyone else thinking that the name DOGE for Elon’s new department is way too reminiscent of early republican Venice and its dukes, or doges? Could Elon think he’s now the Doge, or Prince, of America? And is using Trump as his legislative puppet?

If Dems want to regain any credibility or have any hope of winning another election:

- Call for the arrest of Elon Musk (!)

- Treat Trump's presidency as constitutionally illegitimate #14thNOW

- Call for impeachment and any legal pathway for immediate removal

- Boost peaceful mass protests ⤵️

Autism is not a disease, so "the framing of autistic characteristics and behaviours as ‘symptoms’ is misleading, harmful and helps nobody." Instead, others should strive to understand autistic experiences and proceed accordingly. From @fergus.oolong.co.uk:

My mum: The kind of autistic who asks for what she wants, when she wants it. Always speaks her mind

Me: The kind of autistic who is so anxious about the possibility of inconveniencing someone that I’d rather stay quiet and just go hungry all day

And that’s why no two autistic people are the same

What has happened to the US that has changed public opinion? Why do the people greet the leader trying to subvert the law with glee and fanfare instead of outrage?
Makes me sad re-reading this amazing letter from ex-Watergate Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox sent to high school seniors in 1994 after they asked him “What should Americans learn from Watergate?” 20 years later in ‘94.

His answer is remarkable—unfortunately things didn’t work out so well in 2024.

Greetings from Vancouver Island, where we can stop feeling smug about missing out on the hurricanes of the east coast because a “Bomb Cyclone” is heading our way. Not excited about the heavy winds to come…old growth forest is lovely until it lands on your car and knocks out the power.
