This is what it looks like in terms of number of livestock animals now compared with 2050 from BAU and the EAT Lancet Planetary Health diet

If we compare the EAT Lancet Planetary Diet to business as usual (BAU) we see the effect that has on land use, GHG emissions, water, nitrogen and phosphorus use.

What this looks like in numbers is that only 115 million people globally live in a safe and just food environment

So looking at all the factors overall for food justice, we see that much of the world falls short.

In terms of the meaningful representation aspect of justice (the right to decent work) we see most countries do not have this.
Farm workers are some of the least well paid employees in the world. They are more likely to be subjected to exploitative, unsafe environments.

In terms of climate justice, much of the Global South does not currently live in a safe climate - despite the fact that they were far less responsible for climate change in the first place.

This version of the #EATLancet looked at, for the first time, justice too. This means the right to a healthy food environment.
Most of the planet does not currently have access to a healthy food environment.

Here are our planetary boundaries, showing the safe limits of numerous aspects; the lighter green shows how much the food system is contributing to overshoot.
5 of 9 boundaries are where the food system takes us outside planetary boundaries

For red meat in particular, on health grounds, almost ALL of the world eats too much.
The ONLY region that doesn't eat enough is South Asia.

North America and Europe consume WAY too much dairy.
All those TikToks telling you to smash those yoghurts to increase your protein? If you're from the West, you really probably don't need to do that and it's likely to be more harmful.

Here's what we've all been waiting for.
How much meat should we be eating?
For red meat - the equivalent of ONE hamburger A WEEK.
A *max* of 1 serving of fish/white meat a day.

As we know, we need to eat AT LEAST 5 portions of fruit and veg a day.
Nuts and legumes are also super important for a healthy diet - great source of healthy protein!

So excited to see this essay finally out after months of hard work behind the scenes.
Here, we ponder what if we redesigned the economy so that it's regenerative and serves all life, rather than shareholder profits?

But this bread has been there for hours and it can't have been accidentally dropped, as this is the 3rd time in weeks I've found bread in the water bowl and nowhere else in the garden. I don't feed bread to birds, so the crows have found this bread from somewhere else and brought it to me.

More crow gifts! This bread was placed in the water shortly after I put bird food on the upside down flower pot to the right, and saw my crows come down to eat it. Crows do soak food sometimes (they're one of the only known species to actually process food for delayed gratification)

What may look as a boring couple of nuts to you is actually something FAR more profound.
I've been feeding my neighborhood crows for a while now. I've got to know the territorial pair whose range includes my flat. Recently, I've been feeding them from out the back of my flat on the first floor

This is Foghorn, one of my crow familiars, named because their territorial call sounds very much like a foghorn.
I've been feeding this one for a month or so now, and it does this quiet contact call after I've fed it. Apparently it's a call they only do to trusted crows and humans.

Interesting ornithology today at the beach - saw juvenile gulls practicing hunting by repeatedly picking up some seaweed, dropping it at a height, then chasing it back to the sea and picking it up again.
