My presentation focuses on 1547–49, when both supporters and critics of the Protector’s policies invoked Edward VI’s minority; examines kingship ideas behind this rhetoric; and argues that, though conservative and evangelical rhetoric seemed opposed, they shared a notion of royal authority.
