It's a common misconception that Ring Pull style tabs are largely extinct in the modern age — this isn't the case!

Watch out for migrant and imported species, as these are still widespread throughout Asia and the Middle East, which are key records.

If only the tab was still intact, though we could probably predict it to be a couple of different styles from around the late 50s - early 60s.

Pictured below are the common U-Tabs, and rarer on these, Pull-Tabs, courtesy of one of our friends in Canada!

To find the Manufacturer of your can, check on the side, usually around the barcode. It will usually be signified by a small logo — Some common ones are listed below, with Manufacturer names in the ALT text.

*Please note, the can manufacturer will not always be the same as the lid manufacturer!*

The NCG is a scientific group dedicated to the collection, classification, and research of Nitripervalidae (often known as can tabs, ring pulls, and a variety of other common names) — small, incredibly variable Microsyntherids, believed to be kleptoparasites, usually of food/bevarage packaging.

Pain in the ass, only help I can give is an ID...

Parvum foramen (Family Duoforaminis), probably the most widespread species of the Western world
November 16, 2024 at 9:00 PM
I have no idea what the heck kind of magic you're doing here, but I can identify your can tab there!

Parvum fabaforaminis, of the family Duoforaminis, making nice use of that distinctively wide Primary Oral Groove!

‼️WANTED‼️

The NCG has recently been tipped off regarding the possibility of Thermochromic — Colour changing — tabs!

They are expected to be localised around N. America, especially Mexico, from the manufacturer 'Envases' (Logo pictured right).

Please contact us here, or on our Discord, if seen!

Fair play to them, they went with a brilliant choice of Nitri!

Acutios parvum (family Acutiforaminis — it's actual status on Freeway Cola hasn't actually been established yet, though the limited samples we have seen have not shown its presence in this host yet.

Keep an eye out!

Name a better trio, I'll wait

It's official, Faba and Minimus are no more! The former Faba foraminis and Minimus foraminis have been brought together into genus Parvum with their more common P. foramen brethren, bringing the total of Parvum species to three.

Changes now live @

She's just like us fr

Two quite accurately presented Nitri! Very close to what is currently classified as Faba foraminis of the family Duoforaminis, but as a heads up, that might not be the case for too much longer, some reclassifications to come 👀

Hands up, we made a mistake, and we're shamelessly going to use it to show off some cool Nitri!

For over a month now, the NCG has had two different Os Parvums, while going through a collection we had access to we added these 2 under the exact same name, over 2 different families (1/2)

Nitri spotted!

Not a great angle for an ID, but we are currently in the process of classifying these types of tabs. They'll fall under the family Opertoforaminis when we do!

Can I ask what country this is from? They seem to be a mostly SE Asian find when they do show up.
