The Swedish explosives chemist Alfred Nobel, for whom the eponymous prize is named (including for nitric oxide in 1998) was prescribed his invention (nitroglycerine, altho in another form) for heart troubles later in life, because it produces NO and increases blood flow.

Did you know that the original discovery of arginine as the source of Nitric Oxide (NO) was in 1987 by a Utah scientist/clinician named John Hibbs who showed it was used by normal cells to kill cancer cells? (PubMedID2432665)
