Measles high infection rate is the reason we have not yet been able to eradicate it. That rate means you need a very high vaccination rate to prevent outbreaks. It is possible, but not with current levels of institutional distrust.
The average person with the flu gives it to around 1.4 people. The average person with measles gives it to between 12 and 18 people.

Measles cases continue to surge globally, putting millions of children at risk.

More than 10 million people globally were infected with measles in 2023, a 20% increase from the previous year.

One of my pet peeves is when people are making a ranking for something and label things as 1a and 1b when they really just mean 1 and 2.

I've always found issue with people telling me that in any type of relationship, I shouldn't put in more effort than the other person does. It just sounds a little too transactional, and on top of that, I feel like that mentality allows other people to dictate my actions.

I don't usually get sleepy at night. It's been that way since I was a teenager. By that, I mean the sun is back up when I get sleepy. It sucks.

So get this: the one time I want to use my disposition to help someone get to the airport at 4:30 am, I get sleepy at around 2. Make it make sense.

Once in a while, I want to not be me for a little bit. I'd just rather be anyone else for a short amount of time. I know that in the grand scheme, I have it pretty good, but man would it be nice to get out of my own head and have some small semblance of respite from the bullshit I inflict on myself.

Yesterday, I typed out the word “scheduling,” started trying to re-word the sentence, and opted to use the word “schedule.” After 4 backspaces, I was left with “sched” and completely forgot how to spell the rest of the word. I sat there thinking about it for minutes. I had to google it. What the shi

I have a weirdly good singing voice, but any time I sing in front of people, I instinctively make myself sound worse. There are several reasons that I suspect I do that, admittedly all irrational, but blah blah blah. Look, I'm not Freddy Mercury or anything, but people around me would be impressed.

I have been in love with someone to the absolute extent of my capacity to feel, and she completely broke me. Whenever life seem tough or things go wrong, it helps to remember that I survived that.

I'm not grateful that it happened at all, but I'll keep using the experience to my benefit when I can.

What is even the point in having laser breath if you can just do this?

I spent a few days with a girl a while back. She was lovely, and we basically spent the whole time driving around and talking. At some point, she stared at me in what seemed like confusion, and said, "Wow Nirav you're a good person." I think about that sometimes. It felt good, and I hope she's right

We are all lucky that ducks are dumber than crows.

I went on reddit the other day, and some dude was expressing that he wished more people asked how he was doing or how his day went. About 20 people, in replies, posted pictures of their cats.

I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion, but I think the younger generations are inspiring. As a whole, they seem more considerate, aware of social causes, motivated, and smarter than we (millennials) were. There are examples of overcorrecting out there, but all-in-all, they make me optimistic.

When I’m talking about something I like, my least favorite thing you can do is to interrupt me by saying, “ACTUALLY THE THING YOU ENJOY IS OBJECTIVELY BAD AND THUS YOU HAVE BAD TASTE!”

I am unable to overstate how much I enjoyed Godzilla Minus One. I went in with high expectations due to reviews and personal recommendations, and the movie exceeded them extremely.

System of a Down is my favorite band. They have this song called ‘Fuck the System’ that I used to sing along to loudly with friends in the car. The part I probably sung loudest was “I’m just the meaning of pi/e.” I recently learned that those are not lyrics that exist in any song. I feel betrayed.

Learning Hindi through Duolingo is a very frustrating experience at times. So many new rules are presented with no explanation, and there isn’t even a comment section for people to ask about it like with other languages. Just have to remember I’m doing this to get into Bollywood… eyes on the prize!!

Targeted advertising is working on me. I now want one of those handheld gaming devices with like 20k games that looks like an old school gameboy. I didn’t even know those existed until around a week ago.

One of the intentionally funniest people I’ve ever met was a super vain person who was very self-aware about her behavior. For the selfish reason of my personal amusement, I hope she never changes.

I am excited about almost finishing my bow (the shooting kind, not the bend-over curtsy)! It looked like this before (attached), but we’ve been working on making it more shiny.

Today, I learned that expresso is not a drink, and that I am probably allergic to poison ivy. It’s been lovely.

The prospect of a ride-or-die doesn't seem appealing. I think everyone should have the option of getting off the ride and staying alive. Then again, I'd hope that any potential ride-or-die I'd choose to have wouldn't put me in a situation where I'd have to die. The whole idea seems super unnecessary
