#CoffeeOutside PHL today. Cruised through some single track, stopped at the river for leftover breakfast, and picked up a copy of the Gravel Adventure Guide for central PA

Saw Superman last night. It's not perfect but it's an honest and sincere comic book story. And I'm glad movies with long established characters don't feel like they need to do the origin story yet again. Drop me into the universe and show, don't tell how much depth it has.

300% cost escalation in a decade?

We need to consider pausing this program until we can figure out if it's sustainable and in line with our goals as a city.

Bikes?

Oh. No. I'm talking about repaving roads.

This is based on the average cost of ownership over time, including purchase, interest, repairs, maintenance, insurance, fuel, and parking.

The most economical things you can do is avoid needing the car, as many of the costs are fixed regardless of mileage.

Gorgeous weather in PA today. Felt good to be back on the big tires!

I went a month without a car for daily errands and honestly it was fine. MTB and basket came from from the trash, I just put on big bars, better brake pads, and racks from my bin. Hauled a lot of scrap, brush, and several buckets of mulch.

As someone who does not really mind sharing roads with cars as long as they aren't actively hitting me...

Yes we do absolutely need separated and protected infrastructure. It's not just about the most able, it's about everyone. Forget about your Strava PR and think about the cargo bike with kids
North San Diego County, where the Vehicular Cyclists continue to hang on and advocate for the removal of protected bike lanes for All Ages & Abilities, because well, they’re avid cyclists who’ve been riding for decades and they’re fine just taking the lane. 👇

Keep your old cars longer and use them less whenever possible. Fix them when reasonable. Ride a bike, take transit, walk, stay local, etc. Worst time in a long time to buy or lease a new car.
Auto loan debt recently surpassed student loans as the second-largest consumer debt category in the U.S., trailing mortgages. Americans owe a record $1.66 trillion in auto loan debt, up 20% since 2020.

The average monthly payment on a new car is now $754, up from $570 in 2019.

Mentally toughing it out a bit this morning. Between work and other obligations I feel like I only really leave the house every couple of days and it didn't help looking at Strava post work out and seeing everyone doing awesome rides yesterday.

I cannot stress how much I don't want to be in my house right now. Between illness, work, and circumstances it's going to be the better part of a 3 weeks that I haven't been outside.

Taking my car an quick inspection tomorrow. A couple of maintenance things expected but what stood out was the odometer. Between biking and remote work I only put 7000 miles on the car this year. That's a ton saved in gas, repair needs, parking, and depreciation!

I am going a little stir crazy with the cold weather. Opportunities to truly disconnect from obligations of work and the house are rare right now. Shopping therapy instead. I put new brakes and a rack on the Univega. The brakes are a touch on the low side to allow them to accommodate a 700c setup
