Monolingual English speakers really think they have the market on all the knowledge. Ie epistemologies. The fact is the Ojibwe language is totally gender neutral and gives human-like reference to all animate beings. A rock, a tree, a wolf, the moon are people.

Prior to 1924, a stipulation for NATIVE American citizenship to the USA, one had to denounce tribal citizenship, leave their community and become subject to US taxes. Many did do this. Most didn't. For a long time it was like that. In 1924 the USA finally agreed to allow dual citizenship.
