Yakuza 0 is probably the best starting point for getting into more of the main series but Y0 as a stand alone game is fantastic.

One of the problems with a lot of people (I'm not sure how to properly scope this complaint, but let's continue with the center-left) is a fundamental critical illiteracy—an illiteracy about everything to do with the nature of power and a refusal to consider that it is a thing that can be understood

Lots of VAs play cross-gender roles. Always have, since voice acting became a thing. Assuming that trans VAs won't sounds like an excuse to not audition trans VAs.
