Here's a photo that's taken closer to the probable spot where the video was most likely recorded. Ultimately, my fellow volunteers too thought that the video was shot at the Scenic Spot, or its immediate vicinity, at 60.47650339054172, 22.034905249210674. The exact spot is difficult to estimate.

They went as far as analysing, among other things, the rock on which the people in the video were standing.

To my disappointment, Google Maps didn't have photos of the view nor did the Street View offer much help.

Lo and behold, Google Maps offered me a place that sits right next to the spa and has just the kind of view needed for recording this video: Ruona Scenic Spot (in blue).

Bing Maps was more accommodating but the angle didn’t seem right. It felt like the video was shot from a higher ground.

Google Maps Street View didn’t exactly help, thanks to this enormous ship that’s parked right next to the spa. The view is too obstructed.

It didn't take long until I bumped into a place that seemed to have the things I was looking for: the Naantali Spa Hotel & Resort (which is not in Turku proper, mind you). One of the spa's docks, and its surroundings, caught my attention.

Another helpful hint provided by the neo-Nazis was to direct the camera towards these lights which look like windows of a large building. All I now had to do was follow the shoreline of Turku and the nearby areas to find these two objects.

In the video, you can see five lights in the distance. It appears the lights are being reflected from the water and hence, the lights are probably mounted on a dock.

In late November 2023, a Finnish neo-Nazi sports club posted a short video of themselves standing with torches and a banner. The video ended with a message that indicated the group was based in Turku, a coastal city in Finland.

Bjørgo and Ravndaal caution that the aforementioned definitions are “ideal types; for specific groups and activists the distinctions may be less clear-cut”.

The two branches are then divided into three subcategories: cultural nationalists, ethnic nationalists and racial nationalists.

I draw heavily on Tore Bjørgo’s and Jacob Aasland Ravndal’s excellent research. They’ve created a sort of “family tree” for the term. They divide the far-right into two main branches: the radical right and the extreme right.

What does the term “the far-right” mean? Especially after Trump’s victory, there’s been a lot of discussion about the term and whether this or that qualifies as being far-right. I figured people might benefit from learning what the academic community thinks of the term, and how they define it. 🧵

In one of the Google Maps photos, you could spot the same tree (highlighted) from the Hammerskins photo. The geolocation: 60.394030165035716, 25.031461703528286. Without proper shadows, it is difficult to estimate the precise date and time of the photo.

These three pictures suggested that, for example, the blue paint had faded or the angle of the photo / the Sun affected on whether the colour was visible.

After Googling the field and reading other stories of the competitions held at the place, I stumbled on an article from a small local newspaper. The piece had two photos that turned out to be very useful for the geolocation.
November 11, 2024 at 8:17 PM
The highlighted article was about a low division football derby in Tuusula. The article had photos of the sports field, including this one which was taken from almost the same angle as the Hammerskins photo.

I gave the picture to Google Lens which returned to me plenty of articles that had similar looking photos in them. After numerous times of carefully changing the focus of Google Lens to different sections of the photo, I finally landed on an article that seemed to have a photo of the same field.

I had seen people use DALL-E to remove objects from a picture, but since it was behind a paywall, using it was out of the question. I found a free tool called cleanup.pictures that worked in the same way. I used the tool’s eraser to remove the people from the photo. Here's the result.

In September 2023, the Finnish Hammerskins offshoot posted a photo of nine men standing at a sports field, presumably somewhere in Finland. The men have crossed their arms to gesture their neo-Nazi organisation’s crossed hammers sign.
