I’m in awe of anyone who manages a re read. My tbr feels never ending so I don’t ever get around to reading my favourites again.

Thank you! That’s such an interesting parallel society attacking its own structures, mistaking self for enemy. Dysfunction in recognition, breakdown in balance… maybe the immune system is a more fitting metaphor for politics than we realise.

The more I think about it, the worse it gets. Gutting USAID doesn’t just harm foreign aid; it creates security risks that will come back to haunt us.

I get the anger. No one SHOULD need a book to see what’s happening. But some people genuinely don’t, either because of privilege, denial, or propaganda. If a book is what finally breaks through that, then it’s not about excusing ignorance it’s about using every tool we have to wake people up.

Not everyone is experiencing this firsthand, which is why books fiction and nonfiction matter. They document, warn, and make people confront realities they might otherwise ignore. For those already living it, books aren’t the solution. But for those who still don’t see it, they can be a wake-up call

Absolutely, literature alone isn’t enough but it has always been part of the broader fight. Exactly writers & activists warned, people ignored them. That’s the issue. Books don’t work in isolation, but they shape discourse, shift perspectives, and arm people with the knowledge to act. We need both.

I’m not saying books replace action or that we’re only at “pattern recognition.” But the denial you’re talking about? Is exactly why books especially those exposing historical cycles and authoritarian tactics matter. Some people still don’t see it, and if one book wakes someone up, it’s not useless.
