We also used simulations to predict the number of mating males required to mitigate the negative effects of genome erosion. One to five males per decade would be needed to remain within a 5% window of genetic change.

However, our results and field data suggest that high male territoriality in the Crater and few mating opportunities for immigrant males could have exacerbated the effects genome erosion.

Great to see our latest paper on Ngorongoro Crater lion genomics out @commsbio.bsky.social

Even after a rapid post-epizootic recovery in the 1970s, habitat fragmentation and continued isolation led to an increase in genetic load and to a reduction in overall genetic variation.

I am looking for a Postdoc (3 years, start Mid-2025) to work on conservation genomics of ringed seal in the Baltic.
The project will use genomic data for 100s of individuals, SDM and genomic simulations.

I'm looking for a postdoc keen to apply for funding (e.g. Marie Curie, EMBO) to work with me at the Swedish Museum of Natural history (NRM) on herring adaptation to climate change using aDNA. 🐟

Open to discuss other marine life related ideas too 🦭🐋🐚🦐

Project is ready to go; samples + seq funding ✅
