I find chatgpt extremely useful for copy writing - but in a few very specific ways only. Basically, if I'm already sure what I want to say, and I've drafted a version of it, but it's not feeling super clear - I'll ask chatgpt to rewrite it 10 times
How do you guys use AI for web design? Like how do you use it to your advantage to design better? #webdesign

Thousand Islands Dressing is the perfect example of consensus driven design. After each island of the thousand issued their veto, the remaining ingredients were ketchup and mayonnaise.

absolutely fascinated by this!

in the recent hiring we have been doing, I was totally shocked to hear at least 3 of the first set of candidates were some kind of deep fake / totally fake candidate / phishing scam.

This story explains a LOT of things: ChatGPT appears to be rooting on sociopathic mental illness by validating every delusion of grandeur.

It also explains, in part, the hype cycle around AI: rich people, addicted to praise, invented a Compliment Machine.

This is an interesting thread.

It's not the original poster's point, but it makes me think about exam questions in general.

I think it could be #ai that finally kills off the supremacy social media has had over the last decade.

With the amount of bots, AI slop and unreliable content, I'm already seeing a lot of people shifting to more local / personal / longform channels: Substack, groups on messaging apps, audiobooks

I feel like the rise of AI generated content is going to push human language in really interesting directions. How do you prove you're human? By using some kind of "in-group" language (grammar, words, style) that sounds obviously non-AI?

people getting better at spotting generative AI bullshit is horrible news for guys who have made a career out of speaking authoritatively about stuff they don't know

we need more formal gatekeeping in tech, in the same way structural engineers or lawyers or doctors need to pass serious exams to be certified

ICYMI, last week WIRED broke the news that DOGE has put a college student in charge of using AI to rewrite regulations at the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Because who needs experts when you’ve got ChatGPT?

I suspect sometimes "data driven" is also a way of saying "nah fuck your user interviews"
It's important to know that when tech bros say they are "data driven" what they mean by "data" is their own experience and the assumptions.

This is why you regularly hear things like "UBI will destroy society" and "if you give away housing no one will work" despite all studies showing the contrary.

This can happen with any AI agent… or human developer!

A BIG difference w AI agents: they will write more code, faster than before, and ship a LOT more code to prod! So ship more bugs as well.

Software engineers (not AI engineers) will build o11y solutions to solve for this!

How are you all using AI design tools like v0, Lovable, etc?

As a designer I've found v0 kind of useful in limited situations, but not particularly better than doing basic competitor/UI research. Essentially it's a quick way to figure out what the obvious UI pattern is that I should be using.
