Chemist using enzymes to build molecules. Chemo-enzymatic synthesis of modified nucleotides and investigation of modified mRNAs and other nucleic acids. Permanent scientist at the University of Münster, Germany. PhD from RentmeisterLab.
Join us as the first PhD student in my group! Based in the beautiful city of Münster, Germany, you will develop the chemo-enzymatic synthesis of modified nucleotides, which are used as building blocks of mRNA.

We systematically studied the substrate preferences of EbPPK2, determined the first crystal structure of the enzyme and used structure-guided engineering to enable efficient access to base-modified GTP and ATP analogues. #ChemSky #ChemBio

With chimeric cofactors, we can turn methyltransferases into prenyltransferases. Methyltransferases even prefer AdoPrenyl! Thanks to co-first author Arne and the team led by Andrea

In July, I published my first paper on the chemo-enzymatic generation of base-modified ATP analogues! These can then be used to generate hypermodified poly(A) tails. Thanks to all the people involved!

Hi Bluesky,
over the last years I was working on the biocatalytic generation of SAM analogues to expand the scope of methyltransferases. Selective 4-chlorobenzylation on the mRNA 5′ cap could improve protein production in human cell lines.
