In a better world, my washer/drier/fridge could be connected to some local house network which would do nothing other than coordinate power usage and notifications and the big I internet would have nothing to do with it unless I explicitly enabled a gateway.

I assumed it was a starter like a sourdough starter: once you get the TP colony going it just grows faster than you can use it.

Looks like it'll heal without surgery, just rest & physio so that's my next adventure, hurrah for MRI machines :-)
November 14, 2025 at 10:23 PM
Yeah it's got to be immobilized or you risk it setting badly, the good thing is once you get through that bit it's all about gently using it again while the bone builds strength again and that phase isn't anywhere near as annoying.

There's a thing there where you can get email notifications, generally they seem to come about 24h in advance.

It was the constant demand to add "just one more species" that finally turned them racist.

(that's clearly a parrot, leaving noble corvid owners unrepresented!)

I'm currently seething not because *I* can't afford the knee MRI, which is only covered by Medicare for 16-49 year olds, but because there's plenty of other 50+ year olds who must be facing a sudden financial shock.

yeah, one of these days it'll happen on a non-overcast day where I have enough warning and enough working knees to piss off down to the coast for the evening ... being in the northern suburbs, inner Melbourne just whites out the whole southern sky from here.

A friend has a little one starting kindergarten.

Their teacher: “They will learn to be good friends, to recognise and name their feelings, and to ask for what they need. Foremostly, they will experience joy and excitement while they do all of this learning. Oh and reading, writing & math.”

Seems unlikely you can extrapolate from a maths assignment for 4 year olds, but maybe I'm just not good at maths.

Stood up funny. Yeah, it wasn't the hiking in Spain or the cycling all over Melbourne or even all the heavy stuff I've been moving around while we fix up the house ... nope I stood up funny and pop goes the weasel.
