i’m an architect.
fayetteville, arkansas.
everyone deserves good design.
Buy a cool house, I said. Why would anyone want to live in a cookie-cutter builder home, I asked.

Yesterday, the 45 year-old 4 foot by 7 foot single-pane skylight in our primary bath shattered into a million little pieces. Thankfully nobody was in there.

Oh, the joys of homeownership.

It’s also clearly been replaced in the original renderings released this summer.

Even though during his previous comments Trump promised the East Wing would remain in tact, anyone who closely studied these renderings should have known it was all getting demolished.

That graphic from the WaPo grossly underrepresents the size of this thing.

Also, the original renderings did not suggest any portion of the East Wing remaining.

We’ve been bamboozled.

June 16, 2015 should be considered. A lower seeded date, but definitely helped accelerate the American Century of Humiliation.

Might as well make another cup of coffee and watch some Price is Right.

I spent the holiday weekend visiting family in the Tampa exurbs, and this bit of 275 that splits two major thoroughfares made my brain hurt.

Also, it’s no wonder why Florida is a climate disaster waiting to happen: the cities are nothing but 8 lane roads, strip malls, & single-family homes.

Mowed the yard, cleaned up some of the landscaping, took a shower, and now I enjoy a glass of red wine on the deck while the frogs and crickets sing all around me on this nearly perfect late-summer evening in Fayetteville.

Okay, @accuweather.com - I appreciate the updated iOS and iPadOS apps, but changing the widget color to BRIGHT RED for a flood watch is a little much.

Tornado warning, sure. Flood warning, okay. Hurricane or tropical storm warning, yes please.

But not for a flood watch.

It’s move-in weekend at the University of Arkansas; a weekend when the sensible locals stay inside.

However, we’re out running errands and I just found a parking spot in full shade on one of the hottest days of the Fayetteville summer.

I am invincible.

Same for here in Fayetteville. The development pattern is so broken, and our building and zoning codes are so outdated that we end up with terrible projects like this recently proposed apartment development near the downtown heart of our city. It was voted down by the city council, thankfully.

I’m assuming they also scrubbed their instagram account ahead of this announcement?

Renderings have “McCrery Architects PLLC” in the bottom left corner. Their website leaves a lot to be desired.

I mean, just look at this lovely urban park! 🥰

This has been a US Customs & Border Patrol checkpoint since at least 2009.

The actions taken by ICE and the Trump Administration are abhorrent, but this is not some makeshift checkpoint at a weigh station recently commandeered by CBP and/or ICE.

This has been a US Customs & Border Patrol checkpoint since at least 2009, as shown by these Google Street View captures.

The actions taken by ICE and the Trump Administration are abhorrent, but this is not a makeshift checkpoint at a weigh station.

Hey, Bentonville. If you have to put up a “DANGEROUS INTERSECTION AHEAD” sign on a road, maybe you need to rethink the design of your streets and/or put in a traffic signal.

This sign is absolutely ridiculous.

Sophie the Heeler loves her lookout watchtower perch at our new house in Fayetteville.

Changing the layout of the circuit (to create a second “DRS” zone) would probably create better racing than dubious Monaco-specific rules. Why not remove the Nouvelle Chicane? Or go around the Portier roundabout? Or extend the track up through the Portier neighborhood?

iOS 18 has been buggy as hell on my 16 Pro since launch last fall. The corner radii aren’t properly shaped to fit the screen and everything has to fill in a little sliver at the top when being opened full screen. Even native apps like the Phone don’t fit the screen properly when in full-screen 🤷‍♂️ 🤦‍♂️

The advertisement in the background is placed perfectly. No notes. 😂

Same. My FedEx package has been stuck in Memphis on the "International shipment release - Import" phase for a month. FedEx websites and Google searches have not offered any help or hope that this gets resolved.

Are you even an architect if the first thing you do after buying a house isn’t taking measurements to build a digital 3D model of the house?

Gives a whole new meaning to "direct to customer" furniture, though. You could just carry your new sofa or dining table across the street from the factory.

Finally put my @betterblock.bsky.social “It’s hard to find parking in great places” t-shirt to good use tonight at the Fayetteville city council meeting as they debated a reduction in by-right parking reductions.
