In the next election, voters will have the chance to protect the IG’s office through a charter amendment on the ballot that strengthens its independence.

One small business that deserves a shout out from the Stewarts is Pat's Porch right here in Catonsville. That’s where “Jingle” — you know, the Elf on the Shelf that comes every December, of course — gets all of her special treats.

The coffee shop that knows your order, the hardware store that somehow always has what you need, the bakery that still calls you “hon” — these places are woven into our daily routines, and the people behind them work hard to keep their doors open.

Watching her connect with people today — and hearing the “why” behind her run for Makeda Scott for Baltimore County Council— reminded me why her voice matters so much the "new" District 3.

Makeda and I have worked together in different ways over the years, and I’ve always admired how she leads. She listens. She shows up. And she fights for kids and families because she understands the stakes on a personal level.

I stopped by Makeda Scott’s Fall Harvest Meet & Greet, and it was genuinely good to be among friends — people like Marisol Johnson, Moalie Jose, and so many neighbors and community leaders who show up for each other.

We can build that if we choose to — one community, one conversation at a time.

Public safety has to be our starting point, and community engagement has to be our process. A modern, transparent, accountable government whose focus is a safer, more affordable, more inclusive future for all – that’s what our families deserve.

Most TU students come from Maryland and stay after graduating — our future nurses, teachers, entrepreneurs, and neighbors. They’re looking for communities that match their promise.

We heard from Towson University President Mark Ginsberg about TU’s mission — to be a university for Maryland, not just in Maryland.

But alongside those very real concerns I saw the potential and strengths of Towson and its residents. We heard from the Baltimore County Police Department, Council Chair Mike Ertel, and Delegate Cathi Forbes about their work and partnership as they strive to improve safety and vibrancy.
