Deeply disturbing
A French researcher was detained on arrival in the US and his computer and phone were confiscated. Texts criticizing Trump's cuts to scientific research were deemed by DHS agents as "hatred of Trump …described as terrorism." He was deported.

As with the climate, the American catastrophe has already happened. We are no longer afraid, then; we are *in* the distress we once feared. There’s not an “assault” on democracy, the media, the GOP, rule of law, liberal values. They’ve been vanquished. Our language & routines now have to catch up.
