Finger shows up surprisingly often in my WIP - Vigilantes Anonymous.

I listen to French ladies singing. It's decent background noise, and I don't know what they are saying so it doesn't mess with my words.

Only once in my WIP.

Also works well during the boggy bits where you are struggling. Cures the itch of starting something new, without veering too far from your existing story.

I write short stories about the other things the characters get up to. Fleshes them out a little and could make some good 'bonus content' when the book comes out.

I like music in the background, but get distracted with my music that I know the words to, so I have taken to listening to French female singers (I don't speak French). Gives an alternative to silence but I don't find the words affecting my concentration at all.

Yes, but then always reinforce the belief by fixing their problems.

Sounds like you need to write a short story about a family of cockroaches that hate the sounds of keyboards.
