Irony abounds
Yep. Try to imagine the unbridled "joy" of powering thru annual editing of technical reference texts per contract instead of working on the fiction I have in process. The fiction doesn't understand the choice. Neither does my heart. #writing

Tone deaf but a nice gesture. Hearts in the right place even if brains not fully engaged

Thank you. It's hard for me to envision a conclusion that compels the reader to pick up the next book. Like: reading Dune does not compel reading Dune Messiah. Thinking of ending on a note that presents a mystery/challenge that must be solved, then solving it in the early stages of the next one.

Mostly SF (I have 87K words of a novel I need to completely rewrite and 10K words of another novel). This novella is "erotic horror" because that is what the muse presented to me. I don't lack for ideas; I lack for completion. And time.

Wondering how you end a book, knowing there will be more. Do you end at a solid conclusion or do you end on a hint/promise of the future?

I took a month off from my novella, mostly because other things took priority. When I returned, it was slow going. Only able to knock out a couple of hundred words a peck at a time. Then the floodgates opened: 3.5K words in two days. I think I'm gonna finish this one.

It wasn't a quote; it was a reference. Why? I thought it was amusing & would be appreciated. There should be no doubt I enjoy WordRunner's stuff; I leave positive comments at every opportunity. Have I committed a faux pas of the highest order? If so, I apologize. I'll move on.

"So ... not here to start the Apocalypse?"

"Nope."

"What about the fuckening? What about the sexpocalypse?"

"Hmm. Perhaps. I'd need a partner for that, though." He leers. "At least one."

"Ass."

Womack's Dryco books have haunted me for years. In some ways, they helped prepare me for recent world events.

Honestly, I had a hard time with the 2-year "break" (which is me not you) but, because you are the writer you are, I am sticking with this one 'til the end.

Trick question. The correct answer is Francis II, the last Holy Roman Emperor.

I am very taken with this multi-work, multi-chapter AU that you have created! That said, if you violate the rule of Chekhov's Gun by having Chloe NOT use her infernal blade and/or by having Teivel just mope around while Lucifer's family is in danger ... well. I will be most cross indeed.

Another cliff-hanger ending ... yikes! Fortunately for us all, Part 2 will come soon.

Advocate by cat_77 was a fun read, and I left a comment

I used to have an AO3 account, but one of my fave authors stopped posting chapters, right in the middle of a story I thoroughly loved. What could I say? The author didn't *owe* me a conclusion. Well ... still waiting for that author to finish. I guess it's true: we cannot, in fact, keep her.

"I see," it posted. "That is an interesting point of view."

Would it help if commenters included "Posted by a real person" in their comment?
