Irony abounds
I struggled with that reading comprehension test where you're supposed to give the "best title" for the passage. What does that mean--the title that spoils the story or one that leads a reader into purchasing? My standard test scores would have been better had "best title" been defined.

A new E.O. retaliates against the respected law firm Perkins Coie for representing certain clients. The firm's attorneys will have their security clearances revoked. This law firm did nothing unethical, illegal or immoral.

The pettiness, the animus on display. Like an enraged toddler.

You saw articles about microplastics, how there is a spoonful of microplastics in our brains? My 17-year-old son is not worried.

"There is no proof that microplastics are dangerous," he insisted tonight. "No evidence. Nothing."

"How can you say that?"

"Because they can't find a control group."

I read a lot of fanfiction pub'd on AO3. How I discover new works: (1) find an author whose story I like & visit their profile; (2) find their personal bookmarks; (3) follow those bookmarks to find a story I like; (4) follow that author's bookmarks. Keep repeating. It's prospecting for fiction.

I have a new co-editor for one of the two (very technical) contract accounting texts I edit and I am so very happy to have the help. Two chapters down; 25 more to go. In two years, my guy will be the sole editor & I will be done. Retirement, with more time for writing, beckons!

I've been reading SF for more than 50 years, including dystopian novels such as "1984," "Brave New World," & "Canticle for Leibowitz." I've seen "The Omega Glory." I've seen "Twilight Zone" & "Outer Limits." I've watched Babylon 5 & I'm aware of The Nightwatch.

None of that prepared me for 2025.
