(3/n) Do mitotic microcompartments have a transcriptional function?
Prior work from @chrishsiung.bsky.social Gerd Blobel discovered 'mitotic transcriptional spiking', where ~half of genes transcriptionally spike in mitosis.
We now show that microcompartment dot number and strength predicts spiking

Congrats to the twitterless (and Bluesky-less) Haoyue Zhang for a phenomenal paper recently published in Nature. An impressive combination of acute degradation experiments reveals the mutual influences that different SMC complexes have on 3D genome folding

Extensive mutual influences of SMC complexes shape 3D genome folding - Nature
Orthogonal acute inducible degradation cell lines are used to delineate the mechanisms of how extrusive cohesin, cohesive cohesin and condensin interact to remodel chromosome architecture from interph...

Recently joined Bluesky, so sharing here. Our latest work on bioRxiv. Using cell-cycle dynamics and NIPBL depletion, we show that long-range enhancer-promoter interactions can form de novo without loop extrusion. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
Cis-regulatory chromatin contacts form de novo in the absence of loop extrusion
NIPBL promotes chromatin loop extrusion by the cohesin complex until it stalls at convergently oriented CTCF sites, leading to the formation of structural loops. However, to what extent loop extrusion...
