The moment I first heard this album I kinda knew it would take this place. Whenever Beth Gibbons puts her voice on a record it's nothing short of magical. A beautiful album that takes you to another place for 45 minutes on every single listen.

To come out with an album like this after a 16-year-long studio pause is just nothing but impressive. Its unmistakebly The Cure, the dreamy production and unparalleled songwriting is somehow out of this world. Easily their best in 30 years.

03. Hamferð – Men Guðs hond er sterk
What a doom metal album. I'm not such a big fan of his other projects but Jón Aldará has just the perfect voice for it. I obviously don't understand Faroese, but I don't need to to kind of feel the tragic of the whaling story this is about.

Just an unstoppable band at this point. Not easy to top the previous record, but then again I didn't expect them to go "what if Pink Floyd was a death metal band?". Just impressive musicianship on display here. Honestly, what's next?

A record I came back to again and again this year - beyond me how they got this big (there's certainly more approachable metalcore bands) but with breakdowns and a production like this I guess the hype is well-deserved!

Can't decide between the two albums and this is my list, so both it is! Wall of Eyes is the better coherent album, while Cutouts has a few more standout tracks - but both are absolutely great follow-ups to an already strong debut.

Not sure how this happened, but a band that I was ready to write off als "not for me" suddenly release an album that catapults them into stadium indie rock territory and I actually love it? Apparently. But the hype is well deserved if you ask me.

I have a thing for saxophones in rock music and this band fulfills this need. Great post-punk-ish indie rock that would work well on its own due to great songwriting, but this instrument just takes the melodies to different levels.

They finally brought back the metal! Their past few albums just kinda flew by - even when I liked them, I completely forgot about them very soon. This is exactly what I want from Leprous - catchy, epic and equally hard and melodic prog metal.

No surprise here. While I'm heartbroken Black midi came to a sudden end, this solo album at least partially fills that void. A similar level of craziness and *math*, Greep leans more into rhythm, melodies and catchy tunes, but it clearly works!

What a beast of an album. The post-metal of their first albums is long gone and the collaborations with Keiji Haino show their influence - this is just extreme avant-garde metal. 4 tracks in 80 minutes, a very challenging listen but not a minute too long.

I didn't exactly "dislike" his last two albums, but they were just good to okay to me. This feels like a return to form, both musically as well as lyrically. Though the cover really leaves something to be desired if I'm honest.

I loved this band when I was about 16 but I never would've thought that they'd be in one of my year-end lists. Honestly, this wasn't even a comeback I was waiting for?! Call them posers all you want, but this is top-notch death metal.

Just a fun album. Feelgood indie rock that puts a smile on my face, not only because of the catchy music but especially because of the dry humor-filled lyrics. Surely hope to catch these guys live at some point!

Truth be told, I always found ICS Vortex' voice rather off-putting, so I was ready to ignore this but glad I didn't. It's very catchy prog-black metal and somehow even the vocals clicked with me, so I feel ready to dive into their back catalogue now!

I was ready to label FoH as just "not my band", but with this album it finally clicked. Just relentless, hard-hitting grindcore that despite (or because of?) of all its chaos manages to stay with you and rewards you for coming back to it.
