As the Civic Voluntarism Model noted many years ago, it's really difficult to be sure about the extent to which recruitment leads to participation, and participation leads to recruitment (partly because recruiters target politically active people for a host of good reasons)!
Moving from economic to social capital, the Privilege & Participation Survey data covers how often people are asked to take political action:

privilegeandparticipation.org/2020/11/05/s...

Takeaway: 20% haven't been asked, in any way, to participate in the last 5 years.

Final element of economic capital in the Privilege & Participation Survey data: Types of Property Owned.

privilegeandparticipation.org/2021/12/16/s...

Takeaway: 96.8% own 0 or 1 type of property. Owning more than 1 type of property is the preserve of a tiny minority.

Survey Variable: Types of Property Owned

An often-overlooked facet of (a full account of) economic capital, in my view, is state benefits received. The Privilege & Participation Survey covers this:

privilegeandparticipation.org/2021/12/15/s...

Takeaway: 7/10 receive no benefits, 1/6 receive 1, 1/8 receive 2+.

Survey Variable: State Benefits Received

On economic capital, people's (perceived) financial ease matters too, and the Privilege & Participation Survey has that covered:

Takeaway: 77% have no or occasional trouble with bills; 21% struggle constantly or are behind.

Worth noting the classic problem with these variables as well: non-response (bias).

Of 1,405 people in the sample, 308 (22%) did not give a personal income and 343 (24%) did not give a household income.

In part, this may be due to cognitively challenging question wording.

Today's economic capital variable in the Privilege & Participation Survey data is a classic: Income (personal and household).

privilegeandparticipation.org/2021/12/13/s...

Takeaway: For personal, modal category is £15k - £20k; approx. normal distribution around that.

#PrivilegeandParticipation
Survey Variable: Income
There are many different facets of economic capital but one of the key distinctions is between income and wealth. The former is the amount of money that one receives each year, be it from a wage, a…

Continuing with economic capital, the Privilege & Participation Survey asked how people spend their time on an average day:

privilegeandparticipation.org/2021/06/23/s...

Takeaway: unsurprisingly, being in work or not dramatically shapes how people spend their time.

#PrivilegeandParticipation
Survey Variable: Daily Use of Time

Today we get onto capital in the Privilege & Participation Survey data, and specifically economic capital: Housing Status.

Today in the Privilege & Participation Survey data: left-right self-placement.

privilegeandparticipation.org/2022/01/13/s...
