Many people have written to me with concerns about the use of animals in science.

I’m delighted UK Labour Government will phase out animal tests wherever possible, replacing them with alternatives that still fully protect the safety of patients & the environment.

Welfare groups welcome news which could see animal tests stopped
2.64 million scientific procedures involving animals took place in 2024 - a 1.2% decrease compared to 2023 which Animal Free Research called “pitiful”.

Today, we remember the sacrifice & service of all those who have defended our country & our freedom.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Today we remember those who lost their lives in the service of our country, give thanks to our veterans and pay tribute to the many sacrifices our armed forces and their families have made throughout our history.

This week in Parliament, I planted a stake in the @commonsspeaker.parliament.uk Garden of Remembrance from the Llanelli constituency.

The Garden honours the sacrifices made by so many in defending our freedoms, our values and our way of life.

Our forces families make huge sacrifices to keep us safe. The least they deserve is a decent home.

The Govt’s Defence Housing Strategy will end the scandal of unfit forces homes and start the biggest renewal in over fifty years. Homes fit for heroes.

Delicious carvery at Ruby’s Llanelli and challenging Halloween Quiz last night to raise funds for Chair of Carmarthenshire County Council Cllr Dot Jones’ charity Blood Bikes Wales …. a really worthwhile cause.

I recently met with Melanie James, Heartbeat Trust UK, at Lewis Construction in Trostre as she launched the roll out of Critical Bleed Control bleed kits to Carmarthenshire.

These kits save lives. I hope we can persuade others locally to provide them in workplaces and vehicles too.

Today, 59 years on from 21st October 1966, we remember the 116 children and 28 adults who tragically lost their lives in the devastating Aberfan disaster.

We will never forget.

Great to learn about their expertise & how they remain successful in doing business with world renowned manufacturers.

Almost 600k young people are missing out on £1.4bn in unclaimed Child Trust Funds.

For every child born Sept 2002 - Jan 2011, the then Government put at least £250 aside for them. In Llanelli, 7,765 accounts were created. Check if you or a loved one are affected here 👇

Powerful messages from Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle and the Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Chairman Stefanchuk today on partnership as Ukraine defend themselves & Europe from Putin’s aggression.

We must maintain support for Ukraine & continue pushing for frozen Russian assets to be used to help them.

Strong move from the new Foreign Secretary.

But it is shocking that fraudsters were able to hide behind shell companies in our own offshore territories, and then invest their ill-gotten gains in UK property.

It is time to drive dirty money out of our economy for good.

Interesting to visit Mind Llanelli on #WorldMentalHealthDay & hear about their work supporting local people.

Great to see progress on the shop next door that they're turning into a young people’s café.

A big thanks to everyone who works at, volunteers or fundraises for them.

When businesses are paid on time, money flows more quickly allowing businesses to invest rather than wasting time and money chasing unpaid invoices.

I support tougher laws to ensure fast payment of invoices and penalties for persistent late payers.
Late payments: tackling poor payment practices
We are seeking views on legislative measures which address late, long and disputed business-to-business payments, and the use of retention clauses in construction contracts.

Magnificent togetherness and support on the #SaveOurScarlets march to Parc Y Scarlets today.

Llanelli and our region stood united to send The Welsh Rugby Union a clear message – keep the Scarlets at the forefront of regional rugby and let us play a full part in the future of our national game.

📢After months of campaigning, I'm pleased to confirm Carmarthenshire will receive £20m additional funding through Labour's Pride in Place Programme. 📢

That means an EXTRA £2m every year for the next 10 years - investment in facilities, support local jobs & our communities.

Enjoyed visiting Men’s Shed Cwm Gwendraeth this morning to see the difference it makes to the lives of its users.

It was lovely to meet with, and hear from, those who have benefitted from the opportunity it provides to come together, learn new skills and foster new friendships.

I’ve long supported calls for a #HillsboroughLaw & I’m proud the Labour Government today delivers on its promise to introduce it.

The new law will ensure truth, candour and justice after tragedy and has only been made possible through the efforts of families and campaigners over several decades.
