WE DID IT! Gov. Ayotte sided with the freedom to read and vetoed HB 324. Huge thanks to all of the organizations, advocates, authors, and readers who helped make this happen.

Ayotte vetoes Republican-backed public school book ban bill
The book ban bill vetoed by Gov. Kelly Ayotte would have allowed parents to request books, films, and other items that depicted nudity and sexual contact to be removed from their child's school.

This morning, we gathered outside Governor Ayotte’s office for our read-in to protest HB 324, the book ban bill.

If passed, HB 324 could create a chilling effect for educators across NH and make it easier to ban books in classrooms and school libraries across our state. #nhpolitics

Over 1300 people signed up to oppose this bill with only 39 in favor. NH wants freedom to read. Contact Gov. Kelly Ayotte and demand a veto.

Michael Herrmann: Right to read is fundamental, local control of libraries works
HERE’S a fact everyone in New Hampshire should be proud of: in the 2023-2024 school year, there were no book bans in our schools, according to PEN America. That seems

Fight for freedom to read in New Hampshire schools! Call your state senator before May 15th and urge them to oppose HB 324.

This bill would subject educators to potential criminal charges for the books in their classroom and override local control over school library collections.

Also, I want it clear that I've yet to see a sales boost or increased interest in my book despite it being one of the few we know has been banned in New Hampshire–where I'll be giving a talk on censorship next month, btw.

Stop with that lie. What actually happens is people lose access to a book.
