Since launch I have been all over and through Ludocene exploring games (and familygamingdatabase.com) In the beginning I wasnt too surprised to discover a few games I'd never heard of & wanted to play, even starting from my card, but the fact that I just found 4 more *today* really blows my mind!

Table of Tales: The Crooked Crown seems perfect for this! Unique tabletop adventure with clockwork bird GM! She weaves a fun story full of surprises with humor & charm. Good ol' strategy too as you decide how to approach a scene (fighting isn't always the best option!)

Dice Player One is a standout among Balatro-Yahtzee games. You build a set of 20 unique dice with special powers and bonuses, but each round you only draw 5 of them at random to use. A deckbuilding delight 😍

Bonus points for cool thematic starter sets to unlock and a fun graphic style.

Here's my card for Ludocene! One thing I'm really excited about is connecting folks with hidden gems. Let me know if you find something cool. Or if you know of a game I might like 😉

When I first got into board games 20+ yrs ago, I discovered Knightmare Chess. Basically you build a deck of cards with special rules to play chess. Ever since I've enjoyed exploring wacky chess variants. I really like video game versions bc you can try again & again and the rules are handled for you
Using Chess Pieces Inappropriately: Chess is, perhaps, the greatest game of all time. Still, that doesn't mean that it can't be improved upon. Whether or not these games make the game better, they use basic chess moves to create a new experience. www.familygamingdatabase.com/Using+Chess+...

I've had a Switch 2 for less than 48 hours. Calibration doesn't have any effect.

10/10 outperforms OG Switch for joystick drift, a high bar!

Anything I can do here?

This is one of my favorite games in recent years. The story really stuck with me, well worth the play.
The Sexy Brutale from @Cavalier_GS is a time-loop adventure puzzle where you play an elderly priest who wakes up in a mansion on the day of a masquerade party. PEGI 12 and ESRB TEEN. It's a single-player game for PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One, out now. www.familygamingdatabase.com/game/The+Sex...

I'm working on a very short game about accessibility settings, to demonstrate how they can massively improve a game's playability.

Players have to overcome limited control options by exploring the game's accessibility menu!

I've been trying to check out a new game (or three) every day from my unplayed Steam games. Anyone have any recommendations for what I should play next?

Shout out to the duology format (2-book series, esp popular in Young Adult Sci-fi & Fantasy). I like how it facilitates a satisfting story structure (ramp up, built-in cliff hanger, etc) & evades the "2nd book trap" of trilogies, where the struggle to maintain the interest curve dulls the impact

I started Blue Prince a few days ago. I've taken breaks to walk the kids & feed the dog...err, walk & feed the dog AND the kids. Slept a few hours. But, I forgot to do anything else. Trying to remb last game with this intensity 🤔 Inscryption, Stardew Valley, Fallout 4, Breath of the Wild are a few.

I really enjoy a good "awkward dinner party" scene in media. Great opportunity for character development, side plots, slice-of-life peek. A mystery investigator gets suspects together for a big finale, a comedy-of errors family gathering, uninvited guests increasingly unnerve & unravel the host. 📚📺

Legit question: Why do video games ever have very small text as default? Wouldn't designing for large text from the outset allow options to scale down? With popularity of steam deck, switch & SO many games getting mobile ports, it seems short-sighted to use teeny tiny text 🤷‍♀️ Am I missing something?

First Impressions: Ad Fundum

Dig, mine, return, sell, repair & refuel, oogle upgrade$, repeat. I *dig* it 😂, BUT feels like I'm just fighting the controls? (keyboard & controller). Every other move is into nearby dirt. I quit after 5 involuntary downward descents to my death in a row.

Thoughts?

Trying a new thing!

I play new games daily & move on quickly. I know I don't give some game it a fair shake, or spend a waaaay too long banging my head on a wall in others. Going to post "First Impressions" for games I'm unsure of, how about y'all chime in with your thoughts?

If a new game doesn't catch your attention or have gameplay you enjoy right away, assuming it doesn't improve, how long will you continue playing before moving on to something else?

I remember saving up for the one SNES game I could afford every 6mo or so...that game was perfect every time 😂

Steam deck users: How often do you remap controls on a game?

Do you modify on the fly based on the game until it feels right, have specific controls you like to default to, head to the community layouts, or something else?

Thank you so much to mobile devs who start games with the sound on/off selection menu! I don't like it when a game starts with sound full blast and absolutely can not stand it when you can't access sound controls until after tutorial!
