Human language acquisition and use is fundamentally interactive. By contrast, LLMs are generally assumed to be passive learners that merely soak up vast amounts of data, like a sponge. In this opinion piece, we argue that the picture is more nuanced 1/2

LLMs highlight the importance of interaction in human language learning
Recent years have seen large language models (LLMs) achieve impressive performance with core linguistic abilities. This can be taken as a demonstration that, contrary to long-held assumptions about in...

We officially launched our new Magnetoencephalography with Optically Pumped Magnetometers (OPM-MEG) brain scanner last week with a special open day.

OPM-MEG measures tiny magnetic fields generated by the activity of neurons in the brain.

Last paper from my PhD finally published! We show that when taking another's visual perspective autistic adolescents don't use a social, embodied transformation 🧒🔃 strategy but favour a bottom-up visual 👀 strategy instead.

Excited to share our latest story! We found disentangled memory representations in the hippocampus that generalized across time and environments, despite the seemingly random drift and remapping of single cells. This code enabled the transfer of prior knowledge to solve new tasks

And my dance moves are still as lame 6 years later.

Well done @goneill.bsky.social - awesome data with many, many applications for future naturalistic experiments with neurotech 👏🧠📷📹
HOT OFF THE PRESS - Back in 2019 we started asking ourselves what could you to demonstrate where werable, OPM-MEG technology could fit into naturalistic #neuroskyence.

One snag, we'd have to build the system from scratch first...

Anyway its 2025, read the paper here -> doi.org/10.1162/imag...

I was lucky enough to be part of Eleanor's lab 2020-2024. Eleanor possessed a towering work ethic, immense clarity of thought and always had a witty turn of phrase. She truly cared about the members of her lab and I will be forever grateful for her mentorship.
