Trump rails against drugs, migrants flowing into U.S.

What about what's pouring into Canada?

Former right wing Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper says most guns and drugs crossing the border flow north, not south.

Facts matter.

Today's op-ed by Liberal leadership candidate @Chrystia Freeland in Toronto Star on how to deal with Trump and tariffs is exceptional. I love its historical rootedness and tough & confident tone. She has negotiated with Trump/USA before (NAFTA) and knows the financial portfolio. archive.today/WFJVL

My summary notes of @MarkJCarney’s Liberal leadership launch today: (1/10): First assumption: the times are anything but ordinary; we are facing unprecedented challenges; normal is over and slogans, slander & soundbites won’t work. It is not the time for life-long politicians like @PierrePoilievre

Spent a little time on “X” again. I am trying to find words for what I’m feeling. It is like an abyss has opened up and all manner of demons (not just bots) have emerged, i.e., our worst instincts given license (and fuel) to arise, to cut down and devour all that is good, true and beautiful.

Likely too late, but this advice to US Democrats is what Canada’s Liberal Party would do well to learn from/ take seriously. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/02/o...

Perception is everything in politics, and a lot of Americans perceive us as not feeling their pain or caring too much about other things.

I'm not a Newfoundlander or a Quebecer, but it is wonderful, joyful to see politics at its best today. No toxicity, no bitterness, no grandstanding or partisanship--but the opposite. They did a deal with view to "their grandchildren" and in partnership with First Nations. Set a great example. Bravo.

Did another test on Twitter. Did six thoughtful responses to tweets by one of our federal politicians. 25 “attractive” bots or trolls “liked” within minutes. Resulting algorithm upon refresh brought a chain of trash-toxic political posts.

I know Ford wants to use his attack on bike lanes to distract from the govt’s failure to address the housing affordability crisis. But we can’t let the Premier’s complete disregard for the value and safety of people who cycle go without comment. #onpoli www.thestar.com/politics/pro...

This is blatant life endangerment thru dangerous public policy I wouldn’t have thought possible until recently. In Ontario the Doug Ford Govt plans to BAN LAWSUITS against the Province WHEN people on bikes are hurt or killed after they rip out safe bike-lanes. “Stay off streets for your own safety.”

Meanwhile in #Toronto we’re ripping out bike lanes, and in my small town of #Stouffville, it was declared this week that pedestrians who cross at a roundabout must yield to cars (near two primary schools). Our Premier & town are at war with alternate forms of transportation beyond the car. Today:

Saving the CBC is really about saving Canada
Pierre Poilievre reportedly has plans to slash the CBC's budget. That would be a disaster for national unity.
