Simply restricting kids online might seem like the easiest solution—but real safety comes from open conversations. Thanks to Katya Hertog for this important reminder! Parenting in the digital age isn’t about just saying ‘no’. It's about listening, learning, and supporting. #DigitalParenting
This #SaferInternetDay, we asked members of the OII research community what they believe is "too good to be true" about life online. Associate Professor, Dr Katya Hertog @katyahe.bsky.social, @oii.ox.ac.uk shares her thoughts on parental control technologies. Find out more: bit.ly/41dW1WE

Neat piece from the Guardian. As a full-time working parent, sounds familiar! It's gotten better as the kids are older, but I remember those days. I still at times feel I can't do either job—parent or professional—as well as I'd like. Challenge is the mountain of pressure we pile onto ourselves.
‘I didn’t want to spend time with my children. I was just going through the motions’: the pain of parental burnout
Most people with small children are worn out – but for some, the pressure of striving to be perfect parents can drive them to the edge

Wonderful summary in Forbes of our recent qualitative study: "Researchers found that lone wolves have a mindset that values the benefits of solitude and its potential for self-expansion. They view it as a state of infinite, inherently rewarding possibilities."

What does prejudice have in common with smoking? More than we might think! Since MI and SDT have great ideas on how to tackle unhealthy behaviors, we might learn something about attitude change by recognizing the similarities. Great to see that Collabra, one of our best value-congruent journals for psych. research, is offering streamlined review. Perfect for carefully conducted studies with mixed / unexpected - but still informative - results!
Reminder that Collabra:Psychology offers streamlined review - send us your rejected paper with reviews addressed!
1/3 Many papers I'm handling as editor will have been rejected elsewhere. It is such a massive waste of time (mine, prior reviews, future reviews). If you are submitting a previously rejected manuscript to me, feel free to add prior reviews and tell me how you addressed them.

Nice reminder in @nytimes.com to seek out quality social connection when we feel lonely, including by listening! That said, I think feeling lonely is also an opportunity to connect with the self :) We can embrace our solitude AND connect with others.
