Now's the time to stock up on your banned books!
Remember:
- physical media is best (because unless you own the PDF/Epub, Amazon can take it from you!)
- Shop local, thrift stores, used bookstores, or independent sellers
- Thriftbooks is not owned by Amazon and supports independent bookstores.

One thing before tomorrow:

Use your local libraries.

Get your card.

Borrow books, manga, films, audios, ebooks.

Recommend titles for purchase (usually online).

Attend promoted activities.

Fill out those "How are we doing?" questionnaires.

Tell your kids that libraries are good.

They are.

“On January 21, six planets—Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune—will be visible simultaneously in the sky, and their alignment will be easily visible from almost all parts of the globe.”
See 6 Planets Align on January 21
Alignments of five or more planets are rare—there will be two more featuring five or more planets this year, but after that the next won’t happen until 2040.

My old friend Tree.

She stood at the confluence for a century. Finally fell just a few years ago. I tried so hard to do her justice and always tried for a good shot. Never quite sure I actually got it. I'm going to miss that old tree, she challenged me to be a better photographer.

Paperback books are like velveteen rabbits — there to be loved and squeezed and read and stuffed into shoulder bags and left in the sun and read again until there's nothing left but the best kind of memories

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1k/month. A year later, nearly half had housing.

They also had fewer ER visits, nights spent in a hospital, and jail stays.

The report estimates that this reduction in public service use SAVED the city $589k.

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1,000 a month. A year later, nearly half of participants said they had housing.
Participants in Denver's basic-income program reported having more-secure housing, though results were similar in the trial and control groups.
