Call me Synthnerd
@nerdysynthdude.bsky.social
Self-taught electronics boffin, synthesizer wrangler at Skald Modular, ex-writer, ex-medievalist, sometime photographer. When I'm not making things go boop in the night, I'm trying to be some moss on a tree or mulch or something. & Neurospicy.
Phonic were similarly positioned to Alesis and Samson back then I think. They had a couple of graphic EQs and a compressor, but except maybe a digital delay, I don't remember them going into effects. PA stuff mostly. Solid but not fancy.

Me, as neurodivergent: don't leave the house and if you do just stay away from peopleplaces, it's a different world and the rules are all wrong. Stick to the shadows and the green lanes.

If I can't do something myself, I ask my friends, and sometimes we pay each other and sometimes we swap favours and skills, but either way, it's all human creativity and skill, and that, I believe, is part of the why.

I too am relegated to just looking. Always the case with Vemia, lovely stuff but doesn't fit my pocket. Glad I bought a pile of stuff before it all got expensive really, though there's also way more cheap gear now than there ever was.

Oh god it's all coming back! It was called "ESPRESSO MARTEANI" and that is not a lie.

Shudder. This reminds me of a horror that Aldi concocted which was some terrifying combo of martini, tea, and coffee.

See also his Loran modular, as covered in Pete Forrest's A-Z.

Of course the GOAT of music gear sites from back in the day was/is machines.hyperreal.org

The art of drawing schematics in ASCII is practised too little now I fear.

Ooh. Now an ancient classic. Lots of DX7 on this one. I remember a couple of decent interviews about the recording of it back on the day, probably on muzines now.
