There's probably an interesting story here about the challenges of trying to implement a transformative agenda while also navigating the growing pains of a new government structure and coalitional politics, but that's probably a level of in-depth analysis that eludes the NYT.

Yeah, I'm a bit older (35), but I've noticed this as well. Maybe we do need queer spaces that don't revolve entirely around alcohol, but so far they're very scarce.

Honestly, I've noticed a notable decline in people ever since Badlands opened. There's definitely been busy days, but I've been there on a Friday and it's shockingly empty.

Hard for me to believe Badlands truly siphoned that much of the audience for westside gay bars, but it would make sense.

Longer term, these NAs need to go or radically transform. It's hard to take seriously the idea that they're representative when the overwhelming majority of people in that OPB photo don't look like me. And yet we give their opinions and voice a weight that's wildly unwarranted.

I would rather pay more taxes for high quality, universal public goods and a pleasant urban environment than keep my money while surrounded by crumbling infrastructure.

I thought the Center for Public Enterprise wrote something more explicit on the topic, but this covers the gist of it.

While I understand dipping into the PCEF as stopgap funding, it's a real waste of the fund to not be more ambitious.
