I've had heavy winds and computer issues to contend with today, but sharing this song in support of everyone in AoNZ in the mega-strike. I think we need 21st century protest songs. Happy to post a blue sky on Bluesky.

Some positive news, especially for people living in Wellington. A group from @covidactionnz.bsky.social is creating a Wellington based mask bloc and masks will be distributed out of Newtown Library.

Kowhai flowers. One of my favourite signs of spring. Taken yesterday in the botanic gardens here.

A spring camellia from the garden. I should have got out today but stayed in to listen to an excellent webinar. We can't do everything. I'll get out tomorrow to beat the cold southerly that's expected tomorrow late in the day.

We're still in Winter, but it was a bit warmer today with no frost. Great to see the bees out a couple of days ago when this was taken. While the bees hold on, there's hope for us all.

Red japonica to remind me we're nearly in Spring here. We've had a few nights of frost, so seeing blossom is uplifting when the sun's out but the day's cold.

I've been a bit sluggish with posting. Let's blame Winter. There's a proverb; "As the days get longer, the cold gets stronger" aka seasonal lag. We're moving into better days here and shifting my focus to Spring helps. Rain and hail today, so these hellebores are from a couple of days ago.

I had a bit of camera fun today shooting in black and white. I stopped off at the local community garden and this fellow came to say hello. He was very chatty, and his tabby markings made him a perfect subject.

It's winter, so I should go online to see what tubers are available here online or in garden centers. This one's a good reminder of the burst of colour #dahlias bring.

A wonderful interview with Dr Nancy Malek on ‪@abc-news.bsky.social focused on common myths about COVID. It's short and accessible, so excellent to share. Both New Zealand and Australia have rising levels of Flu and Covid this Winter, so the science here is important.

stuff.co.nz had two articles on Winter health today by the same writers. That split key points. Mention of the simple act of masking was dropped from one & cleaning indoor air was not mentioned in either. 🙏 Dr Rawawi Keenan for trying to get the message out. /1

Written on the blackboard outside a local community garden and small park today. I didn't see it when I walked in, but I'd found each star before I left. ✨✨✨

For everyone outside AoNZ, Matariki is Māori New Year, and Mānawatia means to welcome, acknowledge, or honour.

Some #dahlia cheer today. We've just had Winter Solstice and the #Matariki holiday here in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Here's a useful old proverb to remind us that Winter will stay with us for a while; "As the days get longer, the cold gets stronger".

It's been cold with snow on the hills by the city, so a #dahlia with a bit of fire on its petals feels a good pick-me-up. I hope it brings a bit of colour and joy to your day.

This is what can be printed and handed out from the google linked pdf. It's has 10 of these on an A4 in business card size.

If only a poster like this was displayed in every NZ school. Kiwi children would be healthier, learn better & there'd be an uptick in attendance.

The @covidactionnz.bsky.social ActionStation petition is growing. Keep boosting & encouraging people to sign.

There's a huge range of #dahlia flowers. This photo hopefully captures a sense of that. They weren't created with GM it was a slower process of selection to give us the diversity we have today.

I want to share a wider view of #dahlias today. These ones are some of the wild types from Mexico. I take most of my dahlia photos in the botanic gardens where I live, and I'd like to give a shout out to the people there who care for and create spaces like this.
