Don't let Peri's dev make you think that imsims can't be a genre made by people with actually good hearts and open minds.
Laughing Coyote's Brigand Oaxaca and Consumer Softproducts' Cruelty Squad are fantastic examples, to say nothing of New Blood's Gloomwood and more.
