Are there any other examples except for True Detective season 1, Eyes Wide Shut and 2666 of texts in which there seems to be some terrible cosmic horror behind the everyday, but it is barely glimpsed?

Movie wants badly to be the Terrence Malick version of a perfect novella by one of my favorite authors and yet like everything Netflix touches it is lacking in translation: too literal, not majestic enough, and the ending is not true to the book in a way that violates its meaning. (Also hi me!)
